Vintage Hand-Painted Takito Japanese Clown Juice Set

$100.00

Talk about a conversation piece! This wonderfully whimsical vintage juice set was hand painted in Japan and features and oversized clown-form pot accompanied by four matching cups. With its vivid orange glaze, turquoise accents, striped cap, ruffled collar and sleepy smiling face, it perfectly captures the playful novelty ceramics produced in Japan for the export market during the early-to-mid 20th century.

The underside bears a T&T double-diamond mark surrounded by “Hand Paint - Made in Japan”. This mark is found on Japanese export ceramics associated with Takito, a maker particularly known to collectors for colorful hand-painted and lusterware pieces. Examples bearing the T&T mark have been dated to approximately the 1920s - 1930s.

The set has wonderful age-related character, including the crazing and minor wear visible in the photographs. Rather than detracting from the piece, these details help tell the story of a ceramic set that has survived for generations.

Includes: clown pot with juicer lid and 4 matching cups.

A fantastic display piece for collectors of vintage Japanese ceramics, clown memorabilia, kitschy kitchenware, novelty pots, or unusual Mid-Century decor.

A little old. A little odd. Definitely a Gay Ol’ Time.
